Get it People

Google has released Picasa 3 to coincide with my birthday. Everybody with a PC should have this program. It offers so much control of the look and managing of your pictures.
This latest beta program has improved the tagging, collage and editing features while adding both a movie maker program and a picture preview program. They still have some room for improvement but overall this little program is simply a 'must-have'. I don't know of anything short of Apple's iPhoto which comes close to offering all these features in such an easy to use format.
But, unlike Apple, this program is free (of course) and it doesn't force you to get a Mac.

Camping @ Silent Lake

On the labour day long weekend we went for the annual camping trip with my family. It was a good time. Once again we went to a park we had never been to before and once again we were not disappointed.
The trip involved:
A birthday celebration for me.
Singing and Guitar around a campfire.
Large Bugs.
A Canoe/Sailboat that was not ours but actually worked surprisingly well.
Hiking in the Woods.
Relaxing.
More Relaxing.
Kayaking in a crappy rental kayak.
Dock Jumping.
Breakfast.
Spectacular Views.
Mushrooms.Star Gazing.
Sparklers.
Loons calling out to each other.
Canoeing in the morning.
A Sunrise.

Get ready to be shiny

As noted in Google's own blog earlier today, they have acknowledged the existence of a Google internet browser. Google Chrome will be released today!
The story was originally 'accidentally' leaked in the form of a comic strip explaining the concept of this new browser. I somehow missed it because I was on holidays.
I will keep checking to see when it is downloadable.

Just Because It Is Cool....

Here is a clip of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood doing a cover of Neil Young's Tell Me Why.
This happened mere weeks after we saw them. Just think, it could have been us......

I just wish that guy in the crowd wasn't shouting. Maybe Thom Yorke could put him in his place like he did with the guy in Vancouver.

Picture Time

I came across this picture on my web wanderings. I think it was on this fascinating website called neatorama.
I think it is the type of picture that conveys so much and really draws you into the photo.

Honking Fail

Recently I have been frequenting a funny (but sometimes crude) blog called failblog.org. It is just a running stream of fails in video, pictures, adverts and randomness. Sometimes it is just too funny. I may share more in the future but this video pretty much captures the the spirit of the blog and is just so funny.

We made up our minds...

...and bought the Panasonic TZ5. It is actually a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. Despite having a huge zoom lens and monstrous LCD screen it is still smaller than our old camera. I was not expecting that.
So that is perfect for us. Neither of us is an avid photographer by any means. Irene just wants it to be fast and give good pictures with out having to mess with the controls. I like getting a good picture and I am willing to play with the features to get it. Maybe its because I am more gadget oriented (read geeky).
This camera will hopefully join us on many adventures. I plan to take it to every event because you never know when a camera would be perfect to have. We ended up getting the camera in Blue because everybody else seems to have silver and black. We are non-conformists.
Apparently the biggest problem with point and shoots these days is the sensors are not good enough. You can get good ones but spending almost a grand on some new technology that isn't proven yet doesn't make sense to me. As far as I know the only point and shoot camera with the Foveon sensor is the Sigma DP1 which is less than stellar according to dpreview.com. Apparently the best point and shoot you can get is the Lieca M8 but you will be paying almost 5 grand for that privilege. And that doesn't even get you a lens.
So needless to say, I think I will be happy with my Panasonic.

A special thanks to those who offered suggestions and recommendations.
