For the last few weeks I have been noticing these ads on the bus that at first glance look like some sort of drug ad. See an example below.I couldn't believe what I was reading and would always look for more information on the ad. No website or contact info. And it seemed pretty politically incorrect which I can appreciate.
Anyway, I eventually remembered to look it up online (what I really need is internet on a cellphone so I can do it on the bus). It is apparently the Ontario Colleges who are trying to get people talking about them and spur enrollment. There are all kinds of arguments online about whether the ads are working or whether they are bad or focused on the wrong people blah blah blah. But I think they got what they wanted. After all isn't any publicity, good publicity?

Bob and the Monkey
Wouldn't it be great if you were a monkey and you had an uncle named Bob?
Your uncle Bob could say "Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle" and it would be true.
And anybody could say to you "Bob's your uncle" and it would also be true.

And the winner is....
We can now get on with our lives because Sony has won the battle.
It is now official that Toshiba is discontinuing it's HD DVD format.
We can now only hope that Sony doesn't use it's new found power to slap around the consumer. Hopefully they don't get the dreaded 'apple-complex' or worse, a touch of the 'microsoft-bug'.
Ah well, as they say, time will tell.
I still can't afford the technology anyway.

What!?! No Gphone?!?
Even though I am not a programmer I'm a huge fan of open source software and hardware so this is huge for me.
I have been looking forward to the new Google Phone for a while now and they are just starting to release previews of it. It looks fantastic. It probably won't be an Iphone killer but I think it will be way cooler. The reason it will be way better is that they are making the 'Android' program totally open source to allow for as many 3rd party applications as possible. This is in stark contrast to Apples totally closed 'you-aren't-worthy-of-touching-our-programming' attitude.
Way to go Google!
I may actually get a phone if this isn't too expensive.
Check out this video preview:

An Awesome App
As anybody who uses firefox knows, there are some awesome applications out there for it. Recently I came across this really cool one called PicLens.
When doing something involving lots of pictures i.e. a google image search you can click on any of the pictures and 'blink', your screen is black. Then there are thumbnails stretching off into infinity.
You can scroll through them effortlessly, zoom in and generally browse quite efficiently. It works kind of like Picasa in that it doesn't load the full quality image until you start zooming in on it. And it keeps preloading all the thumbnails of the pictures on the site. Actually it feels a lot like the Iphone in quality and looks.
All in all it is a fun, cool and slick way of browsing through lots of online pictures at once.
I believe it also works with IE and Safari but who cares. Firefox is way better.

Super Bowl XXX Rated
So the Giants won. That is hilarious.
I pay 0% attention to north american football but when everyone is talking about New England having the perfect season and it is their chance blah blah blah.....this is perfect.
The only other time I have heard of the New York Giants is in that animated movie with the animals escaping from a zoo and the annoying little shi tzu lemur creatures start calling the zoo animals the 'New York Giants'. That was mildly funny I guess.
The only part of the 'big show' I watched was about 5 seconds of Tom Petty (the fake one - not the dead one) doing his thing at the half-time show.
Americans sometimes really are nuts. Its like the entire country is auditioning for a girls gone wild video.
