Just Because It Is Cool....

Here is a clip of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood doing a cover of Neil Young's Tell Me Why.
This happened mere weeks after we saw them. Just think, it could have been us......

I just wish that guy in the crowd wasn't shouting. Maybe Thom Yorke could put him in his place like he did with the guy in Vancouver.

Picture Time

I came across this picture on my web wanderings. I think it was on this fascinating website called neatorama.
I think it is the type of picture that conveys so much and really draws you into the photo.

Honking Fail

Recently I have been frequenting a funny (but sometimes crude) blog called failblog.org. It is just a running stream of fails in video, pictures, adverts and randomness. Sometimes it is just too funny. I may share more in the future but this video pretty much captures the the spirit of the blog and is just so funny.

We made up our minds...

...and bought the Panasonic TZ5. It is actually a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. Despite having a huge zoom lens and monstrous LCD screen it is still smaller than our old camera. I was not expecting that.
So that is perfect for us. Neither of us is an avid photographer by any means. Irene just wants it to be fast and give good pictures with out having to mess with the controls. I like getting a good picture and I am willing to play with the features to get it. Maybe its because I am more gadget oriented (read geeky).
This camera will hopefully join us on many adventures. I plan to take it to every event because you never know when a camera would be perfect to have. We ended up getting the camera in Blue because everybody else seems to have silver and black. We are non-conformists.
Apparently the biggest problem with point and shoots these days is the sensors are not good enough. You can get good ones but spending almost a grand on some new technology that isn't proven yet doesn't make sense to me. As far as I know the only point and shoot camera with the Foveon sensor is the Sigma DP1 which is less than stellar according to dpreview.com. Apparently the best point and shoot you can get is the Lieca M8 but you will be paying almost 5 grand for that privilege. And that doesn't even get you a lens.
So needless to say, I think I will be happy with my Panasonic.

A special thanks to those who offered suggestions and recommendations.

My Camera Broke

The LCD on my camera broke. It sucks b/c it was a fairly decent camera that lasted more than 4 years and many trips. It was actually a very stellar engagement gift (perhaps the most stellar - since we are not Italian) to Irene and I from a couple friends of ours. But at the same time the new cameras these days are so much better and faster.
So now I have to do some decision making. Do I want a high end Point and Shoot or do I want to make the jump to an DSLR? Right now, my research has led me to believe that the Panasonic DMC-TZ5 is the one to get. However, Irene had been planning on getting me a DSLR like this Sony A200 for my birthday. It would have made sense to have the point and shoot and an SLR but now that our camera is broken I think the versatility of the Panasonic trumps the quality/speed of the Sony.
What does everybody think? C'mon, not all at once!

The Future is Blade Runner

This is really freaky stuff.
Check out this video and tell me if you think she is real or not.

Better call Harrison Ford.

The Matrix Fly

I am stealing from my buddy and co-worker Chris's blog for this post. I just don't want anybody to miss this.
Using a whole bunch of still shots together with a little Photoshop action he put together this sweet little video.

Check it out!

Why solar power is a lost cause

This story clearly illustrates why solar power just isn't the future. It is just another nice idea that won't work. The story explaines that they guys who set the record for solar power efficiency at 40.7% have just now (2 years later) broken the record again with a whopping 40.8%. That kind of improvement is why solar power just isn't that great.
However the story did say that they made it cheaper but maybe that is just because even Wal-Mart and Crappy Tire are selling solar panels. Maybe the inventors picked up the panels at Wal-Mart and that is why they are so useless.
But I doubt it.

Sigur Ros @ MoMA in NYC

I love this band so much and I really wish I could go see them in Montreal in September.
Since my brother is going I figured I could post this little preview of Sigur Ros performing in New York City at the Museum of Modern Art.

This Icelandic music moves me so much. This is experimental prog-rock at its highest level.
And everybody should watch their movie Heima.
Or at least check out the trailer to that movie.

And now we will know the truth!

First the good news - Sasquatch has been found! The bad news, he's dead.

I will believe it when I see it.

This is so sad

I was sent this article by a fellow Ottawa Mission volunteer. It is about a girl who I often volunteered with at the Mission. She was hit by a truck while biking to Montreal.

You know how when people die young they always talk about how driven, athletic, inspirational, nice and willing to help others they where. Well I guess April was one of those 'clichè' people. She really was all those things. She was one of the reasons going to the Mission was fun.

One of the first times I met her we ended up dropping about 10 prepared plates of food perfectly upside down when the serving shelf gave way because of the way we were leaning on it. That kind of became our story and it regularly got brought up whenever we volunteered together.

I have many good memories of her. April surely will be missed.
